It started with our own animals.
Alaska Hay & Feed Supply began with the Baines family’s search for something every animal owner understands: dependable nutrition, quality ingredients, and a price that makes daily care affordable.
Our story
Growing up, Dalton Baines cared for goats, sheep, chickens, horses, pigs, cattle, and rabbits. As the family’s collection of animals grew, so did the challenge of finding consistent, quality feed in Alaska. When their horses struggled with the hay available locally, the family began looking beyond the state for a more dependable supply.
They wanted low-moisture hay that was non-GMO, free from added drying agents, and sourced consistently from the same fields. That search led them to Ellensburg, Washington, where they began building relationships with the farmers and suppliers who grow the hay they would proudly feed their own animals.
In 2012, the Baines family established Alaska Hay Sales. The business started small, bringing in just a few van loads each year. As it grew, Dalton stepped into his role as owner and operator. Since 2012, the family has returned to Ellensburg annually to select hay for the year ahead and strengthen those relationships with growers.
Growing with Alaska’s animal owners
In 2021, we expanded our selection to include more equine and livestock feed, bedding, and supplements. On January 1, 2022, we rebranded as Alaska Hay & Feed to reflect everything our business had become.
Since then, we have worked with industry experts and local veterinarians to develop our own feed line, focusing on quality ingredients and formulas created with animals living in Alaska in mind.
